Adult Swim's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often characterized by bleakness, this show's earnestness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who found the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about following this endearing family navigate their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to help comedy break out of its prevailing cynical streak. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to experience the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
