Widely circulated footage seemed to capture Jones making an obscene gesture toward opposing supporters, though he maintains he was actually giving a thumbs-up to Cowboys fans present at the game as his team clinched a 37-22 victory.
“That was unfortunate. It was kind of an interaction with our fans seated near me,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “Present was a large group of Cowboys fans—not New York fans, our fans. The whole venue was brimming with enthusiasm for the Dallas team.”
Jones additionally emphasized that the gesture was entirely unintentional, happening amid the elation following the team’s last score. “I simply put up the incorrect digit,” he noted. “The action was inadvertently done. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it accidental, you can. However, it got resolved pretty quick.”
League Precedent for Proprietor Penalties
This is not the initial instance an league proprietor has been fined for inappropriate behavior. Previous cases involve:
- Panthers proprietor Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at fans in early 2024.
- Former Titans proprietor Adams was issued a $250,000 fine in 2009 for a similar obscene gesture.
Jones, a figure who is recognized for his media savvy, reportedly has an approximate wealth of $16 billion, making the fine easily payable for the billionaire proprietor.

The incident comes after a contentious offseason for Jones, who encountered significant criticism from the Dallas supporters after the team dealt star defensive player Parsons to the Packers.
