Manchester United Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
