Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
